How do I know if I need a psychological evaluation?
You may benefit from an evaluation if you’re experiencing symptoms you don’t fully understand, if you’ve been misdiagnosed in the past, if you’re unsure whether ADHD or autism is affecting your life, or if you need clarity for school, work, or medical reasons.
What can I expect during the evaluation process?
Evaluations typically include a clinical interview, evidence-based testing, questionnaires, and a review of your history. Afterward, you’ll receive a clear explanation of the results along with practical recommendations tailored to your life.
How long does psychological testing take?
The length varies depending on the type of evaluation. Most assessments range from 2 to 4 hours of testing, plus a feedback session to review results and discuss next steps.
Do you offer therapy in addition to testing?
Yes. Dr. Velez provides therapy focused on trauma recovery, anxiety, depression, men’s mental health, and adjusting to life transitions. Therapy and testing can be combined depending on your needs.
Do you see teens, adults, or children?
Dr. Velez sees teens and adults for therapy and evaluations. Learning disability assessments and gifted testing typically focus on school-aged children and adolescents.
Do you offer telehealth services?
Yes. Telehealth sessions are available to residents throughout the state of Florida. In-person sessions are available in Winter Park.
How do I know if it’s ADHD or something else?
Because ADHD symptoms overlap with anxiety, depression, trauma, and sleep difficulties, testing is often the best way to clarify what’s actually going on. A comprehensive evaluation helps distinguish between similar symptoms and gives you clear answers.
How do I know if my child needs a learning disability assessment?
You might consider an evaluation if your child struggles with reading, math, writing, memory, attention, or understanding instructions; if their grades don’t match their effort; or if teachers have raised concerns about academic performance.
What insurance do you accept?
Dr. Velez currently accepts United Healthcare, Aetna, Florida Blue, Oscar, and self-pay. Please contact the office to verify coverage for your specific plan.
Do I need a referral for testing or therapy?
No referral is required. You may contact the office directly to schedule or ask questions.
What makes Dr. Velez different from other psychologists?
Clients appreciate Dr. Velez’s warm communication style, culturally responsive approach, and ability to explain complex psychological concepts in clear, supportive language. His assessments are thorough, practical, and designed to help you understand yourself—not just receive a diagnosis.
Is everything confidential?
Yes. All sessions and evaluations follow strict confidentiality guidelines in accordance with Florida law and ethical standards.
How do I get started?
Simply schedule a complimentary 15-minute consultation. This is a no-pressure conversation where you can share your concerns, ask questions, and learn about next steps.
