Meet Jay Velez, Psy.D.
Clinical PsychologistI became a psychologist because I’m passionate about helping people gain clarity when life feels uncertain. From early in my training, I was drawn to psychological assessment—it provides answers that guide healing. Over the years, I’ve specialized in ADHD and autism testing, trauma recovery, and men’s mental health. I offer therapy and evaluations that are supportive, practical, and rooted in cultural awareness. Whether you’re looking for answers or growth, I’m here to help. What to Expect?
Starting therapy or psychological testing can feel intimidating at first. Taking the step to better understand yourself is an act of courage, and my goal is to make the process as comfortable and supportive as possible. From our first conversation to the completion of your sessions, I will guide you through each stage with care, clarity, and respect for your pace. My approach is transparent, collaborative, and focused on your unique goals, helping you feel confident, informed, and supported along the way. Here’s what you can expect when working with me:
We’ll begin with a brief call to discuss your concerns, answer your questions, and determine whether my services are the right fit for you.
During your first session, we’ll explore your background, current challenges, and what you’d like to achieve through therapy or assessment.
As we continue, we’ll regularly check in to evaluate your progress and adjust our approach as needed. My goal is to help you build insight, resilience, and lasting change at a pace that works for you.
Based on your needs, I’ll create an individualized plan—whether that includes psychological testing, therapy, or both—to help you find clarity and move forward effectively.

Frequently asked therapy questions
How do I know if I need a psychological evaluation?
You may benefit from an evaluation if you’re experiencing symptoms you don’t fully understand, if you’ve been misdiagnosed in the past, if you’re unsure whether ADHD or autism is affecting your life, or if you need clarity for school, work, or medical reasons.
How long does psychological testing take?
The length varies depending on the type of evaluation. Most assessments range from 2 to 4 hours of testing, plus a feedback session to review results and discuss next steps.
Do you see teens, adults, or children?
Dr. Velez sees teens and adults for therapy and evaluations. Learning disability assessments and gifted testing typically focus on school-aged children and adolescents.
